| The Basics |
Character Name: Ginny Weasley PB: Karoline Herfurth Age: 20 Birthday: 11 August 1981 Wand: 9 inches, birch and dragon heartstring (short but powerful, very apropos if you ask Gin) House in School: Gryff all the way Bloodline: Pureblood Political View: She is absolutely pro-Order, pro-Harry, pro-werewolf. Everyone is equal, and she’ll elevate the low class and deflate the high class to make that happen. |
| Appearance |
Height: 5’4 – the short variety of Weasley Weight: 130 Build: She’s got some muscle on her, thanks to Quidditch and the DA and her busy life working two jobs. She puts on weight easily – genetic gift from her mother, and she could very easily get chubby if she isn’t careful. Eyes: Brown Hair: Weasley red, worn long. She ties it back at work, likes it loose when she’s off-duty. Dress style: Ginny is casual all the way. Growing up a poor girl among a bunch of poor boys left her sense of fashion seriously underdeveloped, which she’s perfectly happy about. There are much more important things in life than the brand of robe or the colours that are in this season. Sometimes she figures she ought to take Severus’s example and just buy everything in black. Defining Marks: Besides a body full of freckles and a few scars here and there from Quidditch, and war, and growing up with the brothers she grew up with, nothing serious. |
| Personality |
Strengths: Ginny is incredibly brave, intelligent, blunt. She says what she thinks, and if someone is wrong she’ll call them on it, no matter who it is. She is motivated, loyal to the end, and she will always fight if there’s a battle around her. She’s got a wicked Weasley sense of humour. Weaknesses: That sense of humour can be biting and harsh, and she doesn’t always know where the line is. That bravery of hers has holes in it – she fears being controlled the way she was when she was starting at Hogwarts. She doesn’t trust people in positions of power, inclined to not give them a chance. Her intelligence has a core of ADD to it – she snaps from one subject to the next, leaving a thousand projects half-finished while she rushes off to something new. Her tendency to fight, to prove herself as more than the girl in a family of boys, or the youngest in a group of fighters, makes her defensive, reckless. She fights especially when she doesn’t have to, which gets her into trouble more often than not. She has no idea how to leave well enough alone. Quirks: Though Ginny is very much a tomboy, even growing into her adult years, she does have a fondness for certain ridiculously girly things. She adores a soak in a bubble bath, she’s embarrassingly fond of Celestina Warbuck and the rest of that flowery music her mum listened to all the time while she was growing up. She’s a wretched cook, a terrible housekeeper, and can be a bit of a slob. General Outlook – Ginny is a very outgoing, fun, funny person. Like the twins that she takes after so much, she goes too far a lot of the time, but she’s basically optimistic and lighthearted. She has her days of brooding about the past, or growling about the state of the world. She could spit every time she sees those bloody collars the Ministry’s got her werewolves wearing. She works right in the midst of the problems – tending to the injured at St. Mungo’s, keeping close tabs on the pack of wolves she considers hers, and dealing with new wolves through her clinic. Every day there’s another trauma, another innocent person bewildered and lost and helpless. She burns for those people. But she’s very much able to maintain good cheer despite it all. She is stronger for her work, not weaker for it. |
| Psychology |
Introvert/Extrovert Extrovert. Had to be to hold her own at The Burrow. Boggart would be? Tom Riddle’s journal, only giant and open like a mouth ready to swallow her whole. Patronus would be? Ginny can make a falcon patronus. Falcons are a very free animal, very impatient and in need of stimulation, and she is always on the lookout for a challenge. |
| Sexuality |
Heterosexual, though Ginny has at times believed she’s a gay man in a girl’s body. Not that she has a particular fetish for gay men, it’s just that the typical straight boys – the preening, shag-happy idiots who are so concerned with snogs and breasts and ridiculous things like that that they can’t hold a decent bloody conversation with a girl – really get on her nerves. She’s dated Michael Corner, and Dean for a bit (though she can admit now that was mostly for Harry’s benefit). Also Harry, though she likes to think she’s grown away from that now. It was very much a childhood crush, and she still thinks wistful thoughts about him in weak moments. |
| Lifestyle |
Occupation: Healer at St. Mungo’s, and that’s the only job anyone need know about. Besides, the clinic isn’t so much an occupation as a calling. Or so she believes when she’s being philosophical. Residence: A flat above the WWW in Hogsmeade. Financial Status: Her salary at St. Mungo’s isn’t bad, but she reinvests most of it into her clinic. But Ginny’s never had a lot, so she doesn’t really know what she’s missing. She doesn’t mind used furnishings and tattered clothes. She also gets a grand deal on rent. |
| Family |
Parents? Arthur and Molly Weasley Siblings? Bill, Charlie, Percy, GredandForge, Ron Family dynamics. The Weasleys are the Weasleys. They never had much in the world but each other, so they’re closer than most families. Ginny adores them all, really, though in different ways. Bill and Charlie she worshipped because she hardly knew them. They were grown when she was young, already out in the world doing brilliant things. Subject of family mythology more than brothers, though occasionally they would swoop in for a visit and seem larger than life to her. She’s more levelheaded about them now, but they’ll always hold a certain awe. Percy she has very mixed feelings about. She thought she lost him, first to the Ministry and his own arsehole, then to death. When she and her family rescued him from the hospital he was stuck at, Ginny resolved to try to get to know her brother a more than the Prat. It’s awkward, but she’s trying. The twins Ginny adored as role-models. She toddled after them as soon as she was old enough to walk, shrieking laughter at their jokes, listening to every word they spoke. She learned a hell of a lot that way, and it had a lot to do with the sense of humour she developed for herself. Ron she was closest to in age, but they were so close that he was almost boring to her. Always there, and so nothing unusual. She loves him well enough, of course, it’s just she never had time to admire him as a baby, because he was only a year older. She knows him much better than her other brothers, and so her fondness for him is much more based in reality. |
| History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time |
She was the youngest of a houseful of children, but Ginny got off lucky – she was a girl. She escaped the battles Ron has to fight, the constantly comparing herself to older siblings. She’s never been judged on quite the same standards, thanks to her gender. She was the last kid her parents popped out, and she was rather indulgently treated by the boys in the family, along with her loving parents. Ginny was raised without much pain or difficulty, and she knew exactly who she was before she ever went off to school. Well, that’s not necessarily true. She did have a few issues once she was out in the world, things growing up surrounded by family couldn’t have prepared her for. Like Harry. Pretty bloody Harry Potter with his brilliant scar and his glasses and his politeness. Ginny was sort of bowled over by him, and it took a while for that to fade. She also figured out once she got to Hogwarts that she was actually poor, from a poor family. It wasn’t something she had noticed before. Luckily she was centered enough not to care about the snide rich Slytherin girls and their giggles, or the endless exhausting talk about Witch Weekly and what colour shoes go with what handbag. She waved all that away, and was charming and fun enough that she wasn’t cast out for it. Most people got on with Ginny. During her second year there are still large holes in her memory, times when someone else was piloting the ship. What she remembers of Tom and the diary is jumbled, and more confused every year that passes. She knows she did some dark things, can even remember doing some of them. But she feels disconnected from the whole thing. Her strongest – and worst – memory from that time is being rescued by Harry. Harry, with the basilisk wound, dying because she got her stupid self brainwashed. Sometimes, especially in sleep, she hears the soft whispers of a strange, charming voice. But her second year only served to make her a stronger person. More resolved to stay informed, to battle instead of succumbing. As she grew older she lost the haze of “love” that made Harry infallible to her, and from writing him horrible poetry she started talking back to him. Being honest and up front, especially when he was being a whinging, self-pitying git. Somehow that made him fancy her, and for a while she managed to get her hands on him. It was good, too. He was the rare person who became more a hero the more she got to know him. Still, he had that martyr act going strong, and he finally broke up with her over some ridiculous rubbish about Voldemort and the war. His loss, she told herself rather vehemently. She wouldn’t be weakened by it, anyway. She had a war to fight. And her sixth year she did fight it, without her brother and Harry and Hermione. With only Neville to stand by her as they got the DA going, ducked the Death Eaters roaming the halls, withstood punishment and scorn. She was there for the last of it, the last battle. She stood her ground, even after Harry’s ‘death’. Ginny had never been very set on what she wanted to do with her life. She thought Quidditch, maybe, though after the war the game seemed more insubstantial than ever. During the hols after the war, before she went back to Hogwarts for her seventh year, it wasn’t the fighting that stuck in her mind the most. It was the helping. Every time one of the DA came to the Room of Requirement with fresh wounds. Every time Pomfrey needed help in the hospital ward. Ginny looked into it her seventh year, and it became clear that as strong as she considered herself, she was more satisfied by healing than by fighting. So after Hogwarts she trained at St. Mungo’s. As a trainee she found herself sent on tasks deemed too messy or too inconvenient for the full-time healers. Werewolves fell under that category. Ginny was sent in her training to camp after camp, and the work out in the fields, away from hospitals, with people who would rather suffer than go to St. Mungo’s, struck her deep. This was more than healing – more than ordering the right dosage of the right potion for some idiot wizard who splinched himself. This was medicine the way she’d always imagined it. Dirty and needed. She was called to Spinner’s End by Severus Snape, to help with Remus and his newly rescued pack, and it was like fate led her the last couple of years just so she would be in that place at that time. This, she knew stronger than she ever knew anything, was what she was meant to do. It was ugly medicine, calling on resourcefulness and research, ingenuity. After she helped one of the wolves, Juneau Connors, go from maimed to sighted, Ginny couldn’t help but think of all the similarly hurt wolves out there who didn’t know where to go for help. The clinic was a hurried idea – built into the basement under the twins’ shop, supplied by secondhand equipment and whatever supplies she could borrow or steal or buy, she spends most of her time there. She has slept there more nights than she cares to admit – working full-time at Mungo’s and then working full-time at the clinic takes its toll on her. But she’s doing good things. Helping the helpless. Not for money – they can never pay, and she wouldn’t think to ask – and not for glory, since very few people know what she does. She helps them for a very simple reason – no one else will, and someone should. She’s not about to let Ministry policy or the Prophet’s fear-mongering influence her life. |
